A friend of mine was selling old coins on eBay and ended up with a bunch of cardboard and mylar coin protectors. Wondering what to do with the extras (and there were a lot of them!) he sent them over to me knowing that, if he threw them away and I found out about it, it would not be a good thing.  I love getting other people’s cast offs to play with.

Well, at first I did the typical thing and made a couple of things with some of them as merely flat objects – you know, putting little items inside, folding them over and gluing them shut. Not very satisfying… but then inspiration struck!  What if I put several of them together and get something more substantial going?!

What resulted was sort of  cool, steampunked ornaments.  Each mylar window was either stamped or collaged and all the edges were “soldered” with shiny papers.  (I tried using foil tape but it was too cumbersome).  I am making more for my Etsy shop. I’ll let you know when they are available.
